On Friday, 27th September 2024, CADMA AgriSolutions visited Zion College (ZICO) in Anloga, continuing our mission to reshape perceptions of agriculture among the youth. This event marked our third school engagement in a transformative series aimed at empowering the next generation to view agriculture as a dynamic and viable career path. Over 450 enthusiastic students and staff participated in a lively dialogue about the future of agriculture and technology in Africa.

Mr. Elorm Hermann, our Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, kicked off the event by introducing CADMA AgriSolutions and addressing the pressing issue of youth unemployment in Ghana. He highlighted the vast opportunities within Africa's evolving agricultural landscape and encouraged students to consider agriculture as a prestigious profession.

"Dream of becoming engineers, lawyers, doctors, accountants, scientists, nurses, or teachers—whatever your aspirations," Mr. Hermann urged. "But remember, technology is rapidly changing employment dynamics. The potential worth of agriculture in Africa is projected to reach $1 trillion by 2030, presenting a vast opportunity for job and wealth creation."

He challenged the students to leverage their education to innovate within the agricultural sector. "You can build a successful career in agriculture alone or alongside any other profession you desire," he asserted. "Agriculture is more than farming. The days when farming was seen as a 'cutlass and hoe' profession are over. Agriculture and technology together are the future. Anyone among you who can merge these fields will shape the future."

Building on this message, Mr. Kofi Mawufemor, a farmer and Founder of the Talent Hunt Foundation, addressed common misconceptions about agriculture. He emphasized how technology is redefining the sector, making it more attractive to the youth.

"Agriculture is not synonymous with farming," Mr. Mawufemor explained. "The agricultural value chain is very broad and not limited to traditional farming, as most think. From production to processing to distribution, there are varied opportunities for you to explore. The good news is you don't necessarily need to study agriculture in school to enter the sector."

He shared his personal experience of adding value to agricultural products by incorporating carrots from his farm into the Humu and Mello Brands hair and skin care products. He encouraged the students not to be deterred by their age, experience, or lack of capital.

"Once you decide to embrace agriculture, you won't have to start from scratch," he assured. "There are many support systems, such as CADMA AgriSolutions, ready to guide you each step of the way. There are also numerous funding opportunities available to support any young person interested in the agribusiness space."

Highlighting support initiatives, Mr. Mawufemor spoke about Bitcoin Dua, a globally recognized subsidiary of the Bitcoin community he operates from Agbozume. "We are committed to supporting youth who desire to embrace agriculture, especially in the Volta Region," he said. "You can take advantage of the Bitcoin Dua community."

Madam Nutifafa Abla Kwawukume, the Headmistress of Zion College and an agribusiness enthusiast herself expressed gratitude for the initiative. "Agriculture is the first profession God has given mankind, and it's high time we arouse the interest of the younger generation to embrace it," she remarked. She also appealed for support to commence the school's long-halted piggery project.

The event's highlight was the forging of a business partnership between Madam Kwawukume and Mr. Mawufemor. Facing challenges in sourcing pure and authentic palm kernel oil—a key ingredient in his products—Mr. Mawufemor found a solution in the Headmistress's production. Utilizing modern technology, she extracts high-quality palm kernel oil directly from the kernels, bridging a crucial supply gap for his enterprise.

We at CADMA AgriSolutions are thrilled about this collaboration, as it aligns perfectly with our ECO-CADMA module. This initiative seeks to promote a sustainable ecosystem that supports the entire agribusiness value chain by connecting various players for the exchange of services, products, skills, and knowledge.

Mr. Hermann highlighted the significance of this school engagement as part of our broader mission. "This visit to Zion College marks our third school engagement in our series aimed at changing the perception of agriculture among the youth," he noted. "We are excited to see the enthusiasm from students at Zion College and are committed to continuing this journey to empower the next generation."
